Urban Strings Columbus was founded in 2007 by Catherine Talmadge Willis, a retired early childhood educator and community activist. The mission of Urban Strings Columbus is to recruit and support underserved, urban, African American and minority youth, ages 12 to 18, to become string musicians. The purpose is to highlight and perform all genres of music, which includes classical, sacred, spirituals, R&B and contemporary selections. Urban Strings Columbus also embraces music by African American and minority composers and arrangers. For more information visit urbanstringscolumbus.org.
